Printhead is a unique idea and takes a different approach to assisting with everyday tasks. Designed to run alongside your print MIS offering a collection of modules that work as functions, formulas, calculators and data management tools.

There's currently 38 modules including calculating weights, dimensions and area of substrate, working out print impositions, planning multi-stop routes for drivers, printing custom shipping labels, generating QR codes and converting XML cut files.

Printhead has been custom built as an additional tool to support the print industry, focusing on:

• Increasing efficiency
• Improving productivity

Utilisation Examples
Example 1:
Work out how many boxes are required to pack 30,000 A5 Flyers on 200gsm.

By working this out ahead of time we can
-have all the required information instantly
-use the information to plan ahead
-reduce double handling and time
-get freight quotes
-confirm stock levels before the job lands
-book the consignment earlier
-determine what size boxes and pallet/skid will best suit

Method:
Using the Weight & Stacked Height module, select the A5 size preset and the 200gsm preset. Type 30,000 for the quantity. This will give a total weight of 186.48kg and a combined height of 6300mm if all flyers where stacked in one pile. (1a)

Use the "Divide Weight" input to enter 32 (boxes) which will result in 5.83kgs per box - a reasonable amount per box.

A5 will fit as two stacks per 32 A4 boxes so enter 64 into "Divide Height" which results in a height of 98.44mm per box (1b). The best fit will be 32 A4100 boxes which are 220x300x110mm.

Once you know how many boxes, use Imposition Layout to set out a 900x600mm skid as the substrate size, and enter the Print Size or in this case, the box size of 220x300. A result of 8 boxes in a 4x2 grid will fit on one level across the skid (1c). With a total of 32 boxes required this will result in a skid 4 layers high, 110mm each, plus the skid of 150mm.

The total weight can be rounded up from 186.48kg to 200kg to allow for the skid and packaging. Empty boxes weighing around 200g plus the skid at around 10kg.

The total dimensions and weight of the skid will be (L)600mm x (W)900mm x (H)590mm and 200kg plus require 32 A4100 boxes.
